I'm really privileged to not only be part of the marketing team at Age Connects Cardiff & the Vale but also a befriending volunteer for the charity.
I can pinpoint exactly when volunteers, like me, have a visible impact. You go to an older person’s house and you see their faces completely change, they are seeing someone they can have a conversation and a cup of tea with.
The Community Support Project that I help run was originally set up to support older people in Cardiff with a variety of needs such as practical support including odd jobs,form filling and making telephone calls. We also have a busy befriending scheme, where volunteers visit older isolated people in their own homes to provide companionship.
