I can pinpoint exactly when volunteers, like me, have a visible impact. You go to an older person’s house and you see their faces completely change, they are seeing someone they can have a conversation and a cup of tea with.

Nikki supports 96-year-old Leonard. I genuinely enjoy his company. The older generation have lived. They have something to say. I find that interesting, their history. Leonard is a good friend.

Many people don't understand how loneliness can affect many older people, and how anyone can help reduce that by volunteering. I enjoy it, it's not a chore. It is something I really look forward to. Some people are sat at home all day on their own. They have no one. If anyone is thinking of doing it, I would definitely recommend it because it is so good for the soul.

I met Nikki a few years ago, she gets my pension, goes to the post office and any other jobs I want, extra shopping. It’s a big help. I would miss her if she didn’t come here.

It makes me happy if I am here on my own and I don't see anybody. Even the phone doesn’t go. I feel lonely. If I see Nikki, it picks me up. It makes me better. I have got a friend now.
