Age Connects Cardiff & the Vale has received £15,000 funding from the Postcode Community Trust. Funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, the grant will support part of the salary costs for a Grants Officer.

Jeff Hawkins (CEO) said: “We are delighted to have received this grant as there are very few trusts or grant-making bodies that will support specific infrastructure costs.

“We were very fortunate during the pandemic to have received several small grants to enable us to maintain our services at a critical time when demand was so high but as we move into the post-pandemic period, we know that competition for funding is going to be very challenging. Having a member of staff dedicated to seeking out funding sources and applying for funding that is appropriate for the services we want to deliver is vital.”

Age Connects Cardiff & the Vale has a mix of funding sources including public funding for contracted services and grants for its volunteer-led services. However, to maintain its Volunteer Programme, the charity also needs to access trust and foundation grants, donations and to generate independent income through its own fundraising activities and events calendar.

The Age Connects Cardiff & the Vale Volunteer Programme is supported by over 300 volunteers who give freely of their time to support older people in communities across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan who may be lonely, isolated or vulnerable. This support can enhance an older person’s health and wellbeing as well as help them to maintain their independence.
