Iconic abseil challenge to take place this Sunday!

40 brave individuals have signed up to abseil down one of Cardiff’s most iconic hotels this Sunday the 21st August 2022.

Local charity, Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale are holding the abseil event at the St David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay and participants will be taking on the challenge of abseiling 131ft down the hotel’s facade in order to raise money to support vulnerable and isolated older people living in our communities.

The first of the abseilers will begin from 9:30am and the group members will be taking on the challenge throughout the day with the last challengers starting their decent at 3pm.

Age Connects Marketing and Partnerships Manager, Karen Fletcher, shares her excitement about the forthcoming challenge, “The St David’s Hotel is the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable abseiling experience. I, myself, will be taking part in the challenge and along with all our other amazing abseilers, we will be fundraising to support the vital services that Age Connects provides.

“Every time my nerves kick in as the challenge draws closer, I remind myself about the huge number of isolated older people living in Cardiff and the Vale who can go days and weeks without seeing another human being. Without the lifeline that our charity services offer they would be all alone facing the challenges that older age can bring. That is why we are all hoping to raise as much as we possibly can.”

The event will be led by Dave Talbot Adventure Events and the charity would very much like to show gratitude to the amazing community spirit shown by the team at the St David’s Hotel and the abseil t-shirt sponsors, Shield HD.
